Besides backing up my images to externals, I typically burn a DVD of all my raw images (and sometimes the finals) as soon as I finish a shoot. So my collection is becoming huge. I have been using boxes but I am not happy with that as a storage method. Are there really cool, archival ways to store all of them, other than using archival sleeves in binders (which would work, but it seems like there might be a more-optimal way)?
TIA for your help.

Re: Managing ever-growing collection of DVDs
Mon, September 17, 2007 - 8:57 AMWe used to use cd books (like for music)
Now we use the electronic version
www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx
I have 6 of these⦠and love them. To add one you just set it on the old one.
It can automatically scan the dvd/cd and catalog its contents so you can search by filename. Or you can just enter the name manually like soandsos wedding .

Re: Managing ever-growing collection of DVDs
Fri, September 28, 2007 - 9:24 AMExtensis Portfolio is another option. It is a database application.
It requires a bit of work to make it really useful but if you create a consistent naming system for your discs and catalog them as you burn them then you will be right on track. This works with external storage drives as well or networked servers. As far as storage on dvd/cd there really is no substitute for disc folders in my opinion. Store them in a cool dry place and don't mess with them until necessary and they should last a good long time.
